The International Criminal Court has not announced a meeting with Nigerian Supreme Court on detention of Canu, the leader of Biafra separatists.
In short, the message circulating on Facebook claims that the International Criminal Court “Super Justice” has announced a meeting with the Nigerian Supreme Court on the ongoing detention of Biafra Separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu. The claim is false.
The “Chief Justice” of the International Criminal Court (ICC) announced an emergency meeting with the Nigerian Supreme Court on the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu. This is according to a message posted as “breaking news” to a public Facebook group with over 25,300 members.
In this post, ICC’s “Supreme Court Justice” is surprised that Kanu will remain in custody in light of the numerous appeals and growing international concern following the Nigerian court decision. If the Nigerian government continues to reject court decisions and delay justice, appropriate sanctions will be taken into consideration.”

It circulates alongside a photograph of Chilieboe Osuji, a Nigerian judge who served as president of the ICC from March 2018 to March 2021.
The ICC “will investigate and attempt to investigate individuals who have been charged with serious crimes of concern to the international community, including genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and attack crimes.
Kanu is the indigenous leader of Biafra (IPOB), a group that incites the restoration of the Republic of Biafra in southeastern Nigeria. The region’s departure in 1967 led to a 30-month civil war.

He faces accusations adjacent to terrorism and immortal felony, among other things.
Kanu has been detained in Abuja since June 2021 after being re-arrested in Kenya and handed over to Nigeria.
He was first arrested in October 2015. He fled Nigeria in September 2017 after a military assault on his home while releasing bail.
But is it true that the ICC has announced a meeting with the Nigerian Supreme Court on Canu’s continued detention? I checked.
There is no truth to that
First of all, the head of the ICC is titled “President” and not “Supreme Court Justice.” The current president of ICC is Judge Akane.
Second, the claims did not contain any important information such as when the announcement was made.
Third, no evidence of the announcement was found on the ICC website or X account. This is the busiest online communications channel in the two courts.
Furthermore, the media usually report such announcements by the ICC. The absence of a media report indicates that this is a constructed statement.
Therefore, the claims that circulate on Facebook are false.
