The Lagos State Government has marked at least 39 buildings in two highbrow states for the demolition of the right side of the Ikota River bank in the state’s ETI-OSA local government area. Ikota is part of the Maloko Okun Alpha Word on the Lekki axis.
This occurs because the state government issues indefinite resignations to affected residents, allowing property and family to be moved before the demobilization campaign begins.
The affected buildings at Oral Extension Estate and LGA at LGA, ETI-OSA, Mega Mond Estate, Westend and Westend have completely removed 20 buildings, eight buildings partially removed, and 13 are descending to Westend Estate.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources executive team was seen plunging into fences on several marked buildings on the estate.
Environment and Water Resources Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab led the executive team to the site.
Speaking to media members, Wahab explained that the government had taken action following a series of petitions regarding the invasion of the Ikota River.
According to Wahab; “We had some complaints. We’ve been around this for a while and we’ve seen that at the provincial level we’re trying to find a win-win solution that reduces the negative impact on the environment and doesn’t really affect people.
“Some developments were also pushing the queue back further, with the integrity of the Ikota River.
“So we had a digital footprint of the situation of things, so we had to come there today, and it’s not good to meet on earth at all.
“So we told them, let them get things moving. Come to school with the men and women from the family with the kids. So, it’s ongoing, but we spoke the wall and pushed them back.
“We have been to Oral Estates up until now, but we can’t compare what we met last year with what we had at Grant today.
“They are involving the government to find a women’s solution to redesign some of their main alignments and secondary collectors, but they also show that they were moving ahead to push back the rights of the Ikota River road further, and that’s not good for anyone.
“So we called the machine, then we talked about all the walls, then we pushed back from the erosion and then came to the other side.
“We saw what was going on there, by the right to the road on the other side of it. And from there we came to the Mega Mondo Estate.
“We also need to restrain what they are doing here to make up for. If you are in a landfill, the first thing you need to do before landfilling is to get the drainage clearance and the environmental impact assessment document.
“And we asked them to stop, now, beyond the stop, they pushed them above the limit and into the queue.
“We want them to cut it off and push the sand back, then give them all the documents, stop working here, give them the documents, and I want to believe they will follow.
Regarding the number of buildings affected, Wahab said: “In the first stretch, there are about 18 buildings. Then after the canal, there are about 13 or places. But they are not full.
“They are the buildings behind the main buildings, and they are verbally, about eight of the Wester End.
“That’s what we have on earth, but now they sell, sell and offer titles to valuable innocent buyers, so we are trying to attract them appropriately.

“So, I want to enforce so you didn’t let their children get confused, so I’ll let them be the people who had their children at school.
“They are not disputing the fact that something is wrong. They are all accepted, but give them time. Find a way to reset themselves.
“I personally know one or two of them. I keep telling people that this doesn’t work. But you can’t get over the pain either. The tenants like you’ve seen are innocent.
“It was emotional for some of us here. When you see people say, I’m going to choose my daughter from school. I don’t even know where to take them when they come back from school.
“But that shouldn’t cloud our sense of reasoning and fairness. So we’re in a favorable situation for both sides. We’ll come back and see how far we’ve come.
“So notifications aren’t timing, but they find a way to get their stuff going and then they’re well balanced.”
