The Lagos State Police Commander arrested two suspected armed robbers at Corgotedo along the Lecchieps Expressway.

The suspects identified as Emmanuel Cretus, 32, and 27-year-old Adegal Joshua were arrested around 4am during daily security patrols.

Police recovered automatic pistols and five ammunition from them.

Confirming his arrest at the X-handle, Command’s spokesman Benjamin Handyin said:

“Officers of the Lagos State Police Commander on Morning Patrol intercepted Emmanuel Cretus, 32, and Adegall Joshua, 27, at Coratedo along the Lecchiaja Expressway at about 4am.

“What recovered from them was a semi-automatic pistol and five rounds of live ammunition. An investigation is underway.”

The arrest highlights on continuing efforts to tackle crime along Lekki-Epe Corridor, a known hotspot for criminal activity.

Police denies a man arrested for polygamy

Police also dismissed a report claiming that officers had arrested the man, Charles Chiawa, for taking his second wife.

Hundeyin said the 35-year-old suspect was arrested for domestic violence rather than polygamy.

“Subject Charles Chiawa was arrested for domestic violence at the age of 35. On the station grounds, he threatened his wife to kill her.

“Therefore, he was taken into custody and transferred this morning to the gender unit of Lagos State Police Command for detailed investigation and prosecution.

“The commander of the Lagos State Police will not tolerate the shapes and shapes of domestic and sexual violence,” he explained.

The clarification claimed that Chiawa was detained at Ejigbo Police Station on his wife’s order following a report by a Sahara reporter.

Chiawa argued that his marriage took place under traditional customs, but his wife Ushu argued that their union was also legally registered, giving grounds to challenge his actions.

However, Chiawa was later released by police.

Two people arrested at an online vendor

Two suspects are being detained in Lagos and are allegedly tempted by an online vendor who has gone to deliver products in the Iyana Isashi area.

According to Hundeyin, the victim was seduced by the suspect’s location, where she was forced to drag, peeled, beaten and photographed naked.

“They stripped her, beat her, and took pictures of her naked,” the spokesman said.

Hundeyin said the suspect demanded a ransom of N2 million and threatened to leak images if she did not comply.

Following a report to the police, the suspect was pursued and arrested. As the investigation continues, they are now in custody.

A week later, police silenced the stolen vehicle.

A week after the driver of activist Olawar Okunni allegedly disappeared in his car, Lagos State Police Command has not yet commented on the incident.

Mr. Okyunni’s Blue Nitro Chrysler Dodge Jeep (registration number AKD 767 JC) was last seen on March 7 after instructing his driver, Belokazem, to take him to a mechanic under the Opebilink bridge for repairs.

“Kazem was in the workshop at 11am and called me saying he couldn’t find a mechanic. An hour later, his phone went off. Since then, I have not been able to contact him,” explained Okunniyi.

Despite submitting a report to the Isheri/Magodo Police Station, there was no official response.

The reporter contacted Mr. Hundeyin via text and WhatsApp messages, but he did not reply.

The incident adds to the growing trend of car theft in Lagos, with reports that organized criminal gangs targeting vehicles and high-value auto parts.

The woman jumps into the Lagos Lagoon from the 3rd mainland bridge

A woman, who has not yet been identified, passed away after leaping into the Lagos Lagoon from the 3rd Mainland Bridge on Thursday afternoon.

According to Hundeyin, Lagos Marine Corps police recovered the body near the University of Lagos (Unilag) Shore Slipway.

“She was confirmed dead by Dr. Unirag in front of officers in the Sabo Police Department. Her body was moved to the morgue at Yaba’s Infectious Disease Hospital for preservation,” Hundeyin said.

This incident adds to the troublesome suicide pattern in the Lagos waterway. Authorities continue to urge residents to seek mental health support and report individuals suffering.

Gas tanker explosion kills four and destroys 16 vehicles

The explosion of a gas tanker at Otedra Bridge along the Lagos Badan Expressway killed four lives and destroyed 16 vehicles.

The incident that occurred Tuesday at 8:08pm was caused when a 30-ton tanker lost control and exploded.

Victims include a tanker driver, his motorboy, an unidentified woman and automotive engineer Rotimi Adeli.

Kolawole Ishola, chairman of Advance Mechanic Workshop, confirmed that Adeleye lost his life while trying to safely transfer his client Toyota Highlander.

“He was closed that day, but he returned to move a customer’s car when the explosion occurred. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it,” Ishora said.

Trader Tola Kareem also escaped in the small space with four children.

“I lost everything – my two stores, stock, my car. I drove right away when I heard the explosion. It was a miracle that we survived,” she said.

Emergency responders are investigating the cause of the explosion, but authorities continue to assess the damage.

In January 2025, security expert Anthony Emordi criticized the Lagos state government for rising crime rates despite investment in billions of naira high-resolution (HD) CCTV cameras.

He said car thefts, traffic robberies, armed robberies and trickery are raising questions about the effectiveness of the surveillance system.

He claimed that the cameras are more focused on revenue generation. This could be punished by a driver with expired vehicle details rather than defensive prevention.

“The criminals continue to operate despite claiming that cameras can publish their identity,” Emoldy noted.

Lagos State intelligence commissioner Gbenga Omotoso defended the project and said it was still under development and already helped criminals arrest.

“We’ve recorded some successes through the system. The security sensors and surveillance devices are working well,” Omotoso explained.

However, Hundeyin said the state was determined to be the safest in the country.

“This development has made the state a one-stop destination for all Nigerians and visitors, especially during Yuletide.

“It was a record number of over 500,000 people entered Lagos in December 2024 alone, of which 90% remained in the state around the same time, with crimes close to zero recorded,” he said.
