The Energy Justice Forum (EJF), a coalition of energy rights activists, has warned the new leader of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) against what is called “suspecting, dollar-hunting reforms” by former GCEO Mele Kyari.

According to EJF, it is a fatal mistake for Bayo Ojulari, CEO of the new NNPCL group and board chair Ahmadu Musa Kida to follow the path of Kyari, the former CEO of the company.

The group also praised President Bora Tinubu for restoring the Naira for Crew policy, saying the move would benefit local refineries and the wider Nigerian masses.

In a statement on Friday, the EJF said the policy change was not only a benefit from Dangote refinery, but also a long redirect to everyday Nigerians who have long been burdened with local refinery capabilities and import-dependent energy systems.

Dr. GodKnows, the national president of the EJF, described the decision as “the most patriotic intervention in Nigeria’s oil sector in recent history,” urging the newly appointed leadership of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to be coordinated with the president’s reformist path.

“We must be clear – this policy is not just Dangote, it is about returning value to Nigerians, allowing refineries in Walli, Port Harcourt and Kaduna to flourish, ensuring that Nigerians are not held hostage forever at constantly religious fuel pricing,” the manager said.

“President Tinubu has restored his dignity to our economic sovereignty. For the first time in a long time, Nigerians can get a glimpse of the hope that our natural resources may ultimately work in our favour.”

“It would be a fatal mistake for the NNPCL’s new leadership to continue the path of doom organized by Chiari. This is a path that has nearly ruined our economy, damaged local refining, and exposed the country to the forex shock.”

“We see a lot. Nigerians see. And if old habits creep up through the back door, they won’t hesitate to mobilize civil society’s resistance.”

He said Nigerians “deserve transparency, not tokenism, not energy justice, not backdoor trading.”

“There must be a clear audit of Kyari’s tenure. There will be every contract, every swap, and every suspicious transaction disguised as ‘liberalisation.’ It requires full disclosure and accountability. ”

The manager further encouraged the new board to strengthen collaboration with Indigenous investors and local engineers, ensuring that Nigeria’s refined ambitions are realized.

“We cannot build a sustainable energy future behind secrets and elitist policies. This is a new dawn. The new NNPCL needs to walk in the light, not in the shadows,” he added.
