At least seven soldiers were killed in an attack by suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP) at a military base in the Marte Local Government Area of Borno.
Authorities have yet to confirm the attack, but Yerwa Express News, a source that includes local media outfits, said it happened Monday afternoon and cited members of the joint private task force as sources.
The terrorists attacked the base and overwhelmed the soldiers.
During the attack, terrorists seized three gun trucks and 70 motorcycles intended for counter-terrorism operations, burning military bases.
Videos distributed on social media show bodies covered with leaves and colleagues trying to identify the death.
The military has not issued a statement regarding the attack.
ISWAP, a debris group in Boko Haram, has increased attacks on military and civilian targets in recent months.
Local governments fear that looted motorbikes and trucks can support ISWAP mobility.
