Joss – Four branches of the Nigerian Bar Association, the NBA in Plateau, called for the state to be allowed to establish state police and armed with weapons to protect the community in the face of ongoing killings and an increase in security threats.
Leah Hassan, chairman of the association’s Joss chapter, led counterparts from Punksin, Bukul and Commander’s branches for a press conference in Joss on Tuesday.
Her words, “The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) branch on the Plateau is deeply saddened and painful by recent moments of violent attacks in the local government areas of Boccos and Bassa Local Government.
“While the Plateau State has yet to recover from the horror and pain of previous attacks, it is totally heartbreaking that our peace is being shattered again by another wave of meaningless, wild killing. These acts of violence are direct attacks on our shared humanity, the rule of law, and fundamental rights to life surrounded by our constitution.
“The response of the Nigerian Bar Association has been properly captured by San Matsi Afam Osigwe, president of the association, calling for the government to pose a responsibility to protect and protect the lives of its citizens, adopting the president’s speech and calling on the government to support Tenet of the Nigerian constitution.
While denounced “brutally planned attacks,” the association called all security agents “beyond rhetoric, bringing swift, visible, effective justice.”
She said, “Under the guise of a community crisis, the ongoing lineage in Plateau state should no longer be treated with indifference or vague promises. The slogan should be “not enough,” but “this is enough.”
“The four NBA branches praise the actions the state government has taken so far, and also call on the state and federal governments to take comprehensive and aggressive measures to prevent future events of these genocide attacks on the people of Plateau.
“This is not a joint conflict as some individuals in society have stated, but a deliberate attack to wipe out the helpless citizens who are sleeping at night by evil men who do not respect human lives. We cannot continue to face these wild and evil acts of killing innocent citizens, seizing the lands of our ancestors, and turning them into strangers in their own homes.

“We demand immediate identification, arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of these evil acts, suggesting that all arrested perpetrators have been charged in Plateau State and have not heard again not being taken to Abuja.
She said, “The state should be allowed to establish state police armed with weapons to protect its communities, and through cooperation with community leaders, civil society and security stakeholders, establishing conflict resolution and early warning mechanisms.
“Communities are allowed to protect themselves, and the federal government is not sufficient to ensure our lives, so we can strengthen vulnerable communities with self-defense mechanisms and equipment, provide relief and rehabilitation materials for those affected, especially women and children, and resettle the communities that have been displaced in the shortest possible time.”
