At least 30 armed bandits were killed in an ambush carried out by members of a local vigilante in the Dansadau district of the Mal Local Government Area of Zamfara.
The operation that took place on Thursday, April 4th around 2pm was confirmed by sources cited by counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama. The bandits reportedly were on their way to launch an attack on a nearby village when they were intercepted by members of a local vigilante group known as Yangsakai, who were strategically waiting on the outskirts of the town.
“A fierce gunfight has continued, leading to the death of a suspected attacker,” McAma reported.
During the conflict, the vigilantes retrieved 16 motorcycles allegedly used by bandits.
In another but related development, security officers discovered the body of Ashiru Dawa, a member of the Local Community Protection Guard (CPG), who had previously been accused of suspected bandits. His body was found at about 6am in the Gidan Kano area on the same day.
Reports say the body was taken to a nearby hospital for an autopsy before being released to his family for burial following Islamic rituals.
Security experts note that these incidents highlight the escalating security challenges in Zamfara, where local vigilante groups are increasingly relying on self-defense amid unrelenting attacks by armed groups.
Efforts to restore state peace and security continue, with authorities and community-led initiatives working together to combat the lasting threat of bandits.
