State officials are complaining against Pasco-based Prieto Landscaping LLC for allegedly providing solid waste collection services without state-run certification.
Staff at the state’s Utility & Transportation Commission (UTC) say Prieto transported and disposed of solid waste, including construction materials, in September and October 2024.
State law requires businesses to obtain a certificate of public convenience and necessity from UTC before providing solid waste services.
UTC staff say the company has been notified of certification requirements but has continued to provide solid waste services. Agent staff have recorded 147 violations of the law and currently recommends a penalty of $1,000 per violation or a total of $147,000.
The UTC will hold a preventive meeting at 9:30am on May 9th to establish a schedule for reviewing complaints and determining appropriate enforcement actions.
Prieto did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business.
