PepsiCo leaders agreed to meet with civil rights advocates from the National Network of Action this week and will discuss the company’s recent decision to roll back some of its diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, Pastor Al Shapton said Monday.
In the letter from April 4th Sharpton threatened PepsiCo CEO Ramon Ragualta to lead a boycott of the company. PepsiCo – one of North America’s largest food and beverage companies, including brands such as Gatorade, Ray’s Potato Chips, Doritos, Mountain Dew and Pepsi – told employees in February that the company would no longer set targets for minority representatives on a management and supplier basis.
Sharpton said he would meet with Ragualta, and he said he would still be pushing on him details of the company’s decision and what commitments he still makes to ensure equal opportunities for employment and contracts.
A PepsiCo spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
