MONTREAL – Montreal’s Victory is confident that Anne Rennie Desvience will return to action in the near future.
Whether that’s right between the Canadian pipes in the Women’s World Hockey Championship will still need to be decided.
“That’s the type of injury that needs to be monitored daily and weekly,” Victor’s general manager, Daniele Sovago, said Monday at the Verdun Auditorium. “A lot of things can be improved.”
Canada’s first goalkeeper – Death Vience was named to the National Team’s World Championship roster, despite maintaining what appears to be a serious lower body injury on March 18 in a 3-2 gunfight loss to the Boston Fleet.
The league’s leading Victory has traced Desvien to a long-term, injured reserve, and has kept her out for a minimum of 21 days from March 18th.
However, the 30-year-old from Quebec skated in full gear about 30 minutes before practicing on Monday. It was her third time on ice from an injury.
“You don’t want to see it to see her leaving the ice with the help of two teammates,” said Victory and Canadian captain Marie Phillippe Pauline. “She seemed to be in a lot of pain and I’m really happy to see her recovery faster than we thought.”
Sovago said there will be time to determine the availability of Desvience before Canada opens its world title defense with Finland in Seske Budegiovice, Sekia.
All signs point to joining Montreal teammates Pauline, Laura Stacey, Jennifer Gardiner, Christine O’Neill and Erin Ambrose on flights to the Czech Republic on Wednesday or Thursday for Canada’s pre-camp.
“It’s going well, so there’s nothing she says she can’t continue to make progress while she’s in her Canadian camp,” Savago said. “When that date (April 10th) we’ll see if she’s fully prepared to participate in the World Championships.”
Sovago also said medical teams from Viktia, PWHL and Hockey Canada will work with Death Vience to reach the decision.
“Everyone wants players to be healthy,” she said. “No one wants to take a risk with any of these coalitions. I clearly believe that if she goes, she will be treated well.”
Canada has already defeated regular goaltender Emmaranth Maschmeyer, who was placed in a long-term injury sanctuary on Ottawa charges after suffering a lower body injury injury in the match on March 11th.
Toronto Septles’ Goalkee Park Listen Campbell and 21-year-old Eve Gascon, who plays at the University of Minnesota Duluth, were other netminders named on the Canadian roster.
Death Vience will back down Canada to gold at the 2022 Olympics and include three world championships, including last year’s victory over Americans in Utica, New York
This season, she leads the PWHL with victory (13), save percentage (.932) and average (1.85) target (1.85).
“To be honest, she’s been in a great spirit since (injury),” Ambrose said. “It’s nice that it gives me a bit of relief. She’s clearly the best goalkeeper in the world, so we want her there at the World Championships here in Montreal.”
Victoire signed a standard player contract with goaltender Tricia Deguire while Desbiens was out.
Montreal (11-6-3-6) won a playoff spot in a 4-1 victory over Minnesota Frost last week, with four games remaining in the regular season.
