A brief background on Senior Benefit Solutions and Services:
Between my business partner Urszula Kobiesa and I, I have over 30 years of experience with Medicare. In August 2010, we joined forces to launch Senior Benefit Solutions in Kennewick. We provide professional local support to all Medicare beneficiaries. Whether they’re just 65 years old, they can provide a comprehensive healthcare solution for Medicare coverage needs, whether they’re working past 65 or need to check their current coverage.
How did you land your current role? How long have you been in it?
I started the Medicare industry in 1998 with Secure Horizons/United Healthcare. After moving to Tri-Cities in 2005, I realized I was working for a prisoner of war agents. It turns out that this is very limited and decided it was time to open an independent institution that could provide options to Medicare beneficiaries. I was fortunate to meet my current business partners and teamed up to open a senior benefit solution.
What do you hope people in your community know about Senior Benefit Solutions?
At Senior Benefit Solutions, we take pride in the services we provide to our community. We have a local office so we can help our clients and their families organize the complex situation and provide top-notch customer service. Together with my business partner Urszula and the agent team, I employ a consulting approach to help with Medicare coverage and strive to provide a positive experience as I move to Medicare. We can help Medicare beneficiaries in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Arizona. We are very passionate about what we do. I’m often asked if there’s a fee for our services. There are no additional charges for our services.
What advice does it repeat for recent retirees?
Plan ahead! Take your time to gain knowledge and understanding and make solid decisions about the scope of your Medicare health plan. Call Senior Benefit Solutions and schedule an appointment at least three months in advance when coverage is required. Whether you’re just 65 or working at 65, it’s important to gather information and know what registration deadlines apply to you and what is relevant to the application process. It is important to start educating yourself about available Medicare plans and assess your options based on your medical needs, medication, and budget.
When should people start thinking about retirement benefits? How far are you from retirement?
Medicare, health benefits, and enrollment involve many factors. It really depends on your situation:
Are you 65 years old? Will you continue working on your spouse’s plans, retire, or be covered? Are you over 65? Have you received reliable coverage through your employer or spouse?
Each situation has specific criteria and registration periods that apply.
What is one characteristic do you believe that all leaders should own?
The ability to control your own emotions and to hold yourself back when dealing with your emotions and the emotions of your team members. A culture of empathy and understanding goes a long way in building and inspiring trust among those who work for you.
What are the biggest challenges faced by business managers today?
Staying up to date with technology, regulations and compliance is one of the key challenges we encounter in our industry. Medicare Arena is constantly evolving and requires annual training and certification. It is essential to stay above changes, rules and regulations and requires you to stay in a sales position.
If you had a magic wand, what would you change about your industry?
More regulations regarding telemarketers. They should all be prohibited from contacting Medicare beneficiaries together. I have been in this business since 1998 and the situation of telemarkators harassing Medicare beneficiaries is out of control. We have a horror story of older people being switched off without their knowledge.
What advice would someone give to you to take a leadership position for the first time?
Leading through examples and solid doctrine of justice.
Who is your role model or mentor?
That’s easy for me. My manager back to the safe horizon was Gold Standard. She was led by example, very fair and solid, and always had our backs. She was always so easy and you knew where you were standing. She had the best laugh ever!
How do you motivate your employees (or team members)?
All agents are independent. We provide them with guidance, education and place for them to meet with their clients. When you are independent, you will have to be spontaneous or fail.
How did you decide to pursue the career you work for today?
Previously, he was in charge of managing large travel agents. A client who worked for Secure Horizons/United Healthcare encouraged her to apply for her position when she was promoted. I applied, interviewed, and was hired. A few years later, the entire sales team was fired. I continued to explore other opportunities within the insurance industry, which led me to my current position.
How do you measure your workplace success?
Referrals from satisfied clients and expanding their business.
What do you think your leadership style is?
We see ourselves as role models and leaders, as all our agents are their own bosses. We set an example through effort and the success that comes with it. Networking brings referrals that bring about organic growth.
How do you balance work and family life?
I need to do better with this. When you have no children in the house and you own your own business, it is often unbalanced. Intentionality is balanced and key to keeping an eye on how to spend time. I’m working on this.
What do you want to do when you’re not at work?
Much more, spending time with two granddaughters. You will also head westward, to the sea and eastward, towards the mountains of Montana. I love good books and enjoy the outdoors here at Tri City.
What is the best time management strategy?
I’m working on my calendar and staying on the task.
Best tips for relieving stress?
Good book downtime.
What is your favorite podcast? The most second-hand app? Or your favorite website?
I don’t have any real favorites. I’m on my computer all day. Again, when I have free time, I like to read.
Are there any personal mantras, phrases, or quotes you would like to use?
I have a lot…
carpe diem.
The cream rises up.
Many are expected from those who have been given much.
This will pass too.
The challenge is opportunities.
