Asheville, North Carolina (WLOS) – Rep. Chuck Edwards held the town hall on AB Tech’s Asheville campus Thursday night, despite other Republican lawmakers recently canceling similar events across the country.
Within the city hall, the crowd’s energy and passion was high and obvious, and I had the opportunity to speak with Councilman Edwards and ask him questions.
Despite many negative reactions from the extremely loud crowd, the House members poked it out for 90 minutes.

Early on, he spoke about his response and recovery with Helen.
“President Trump was asking me how the recovery was going in North Carolina. I was very honest with him. I was telling him what FEMA did well, I told him about how FEMA wasn’t going very well.
As part of the task force, Edwards said it is compiling reports from community leaders, residents and first responders. The report ultimately heads to the president’s desk with recommendations to accelerate recovery.

The crowd expressed disappointment at many topics, including federal job cuts. The audience is often very loud, so Edwards’ answer is own dead.
Rep. Edwards also held a press conference shortly after the event. Meanwhile, WLOS reporter Mark Riverman asked if he was planning to continue an event like Thursday, or if a negative response would discourage him.
“It doesn’t change my plan. I enjoyed going out among the people. This was a bit more uncomfortable than some others, but it’s fine. People should have the right to express their views.”
One of the crowd was escorted during the event, but there were no other major issues inside the auditorium.

There was a moment when Edwards was virtually unanimously approved despite many negative reactions. That was when he expressed his choice to hold City Hall despite other politicians who have cancelled similar events across the country. The response has generated many applause, some in the crowd.
