Sky above Kiev during the barrage of Russian drone
Russia launched one of Kiev’s biggest strikes, injured four people and caused widespread damage to seven of the capital’s 10 districts, officials said.
Ukrainian President Voldymeierzelensky said Russia fired 315 drones overnight across the country.
Further south of the port city of Odesa, two people were killed after a drone attack struck a home building and medical facility, including a maternity ward, officials said. Zelensky later said 13 people were injured there as well.
The overnight attack was “one of Kiev’s biggest strikes,” Zelensky said on social media.
Witnesses say they heard a huge explosion across the city, and the photos showed the orange night sky lit up and violent smoke rose from the building.
Elsewhere in the country, the Dnipro and Chernichv regions have also been targeted, Zelensky said.
He said two of the seven missiles fired in the overnight strike were “a ballistic trajectory of North Korea’s production.”
Zelensky said “Instead of a ceasefire, there was a massive strike.”
Ukraine also launched a drone attack on Russia overnight, temporarily closing several airports.
The latest strike comes after massive Russian attacks across Ukraine in the past few days. Moscow said these strikes were in response to Ukraine’s recent attacks within Russia.
A secret Ukrainian drone strike named “Operation Spider’s Web” struck an air base deep in Russia on June 1st. According to the American leader, Russian leader Vladimir Putin had promised to respond “very strongly” to the attack in a call with President Donald Trump.
Earlier on Tuesday, air raid alerts were in effect in most parts of Ukraine, according to the country’s official air raid map, including the eastern Kiev and Donetsk, Luhansk and Kalkiv regions.

Apartment building was damaged after Russian drone strike in Kiev
“Stay at shelter! Massive attacks on the capital continue,” Kyiv Mayor Klitschko warned on Telegram.
The head of Kiev’s junta, Timur Tokachenko, said on Telegram that attacks on various districts had “simultaneously.”
The fragments of the “fallen target” fell into several different buildings in the city and fired fire at residential buildings and warehouses, he added.
The attack “terrified” the city, which was a “difficult night for all of us,” said Timur Tokachenko, head of Kiev’s military district.
At Odesa, Governer Kiper said patients and staff had evacuated the targeted medical station and maternity ward, but the ambulance was damaged.
The injured were receiving medical assistance, he added.
The attack follows the start of the prisoner swap on Monday. The exchange will see prisoners seriously injured from illness, with the bodies of people under the age of 25 and 12,000 soldiers returning.
Zelensky said the exchange would unfold “at several stages” and would describe it as a “complicated” process with “many confidential details.”
Putin began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
