Students from the Accounting, Associate Nursing Program and Teacher Training College (TTC) are among the 60,000 people who took part in the hands-on national exam on Monday, May 19th.
Traditionally, practice exams conducted by science and technology students, assess the ability of learners to apply knowledge and prepare them for the work environment.

“Students may know theoretically how to make soap, but can they actually do that?” Minister of Education Claudette Irere said that they launched a national practical exam in Essanyarugunga, Kikukiro district on Monday.
“Nurses and teachers need to demonstrate their skills. These practices help us evaluate their preparation.”
The exam will be held at the 856 Examination Center until June 6th.
The exam will indicate the start of the exam period, and students will then return to study before sitting down for the written national exam scheduled to be held from June 30th to July 18th.

Unlike professional courses, tourism, electricity and construction technology students are still practicing their skills while they are still in school, creating employment opportunities before graduation, the minister said.
She added that students taking specialized courses such as nurses require a variety of requirements, such as certification and exams, to prove their competence. These practical assessments are intended to improve your skills and ensure that you meet professional standards.
Regarding the lack of tools for practical training, she noted that there were enough supplies during the exams, and sometimes more supplies than necessary.
In the current academic year, 66,000 students out of 101,000 senior-level candidates will be conducting practical exams. The remaining 34% who do not take part in the actual exam are in the combination of language and social sciences.

National, 471,009 A-level candidates have been enrolled in the national exams of Primary 6, Senior 3 and Senior 6.
“We’re working with local officials to ensure maximum attendance,” Irere said.

According to the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA), 29 transactions will receive an integrated evaluation to assess whether candidates from Technology Middle School (TSS) have acquired the expected skills, knowledge and attitudes through a competency-based training and assessment framework.
Teacher Training College (TTC) candidates will provide a final lesson assessment. This assesses the ability to apply educational theory by preparing and delivering lessons in a real classroom setting.
Candidates for the Associate Nursing Program will be assessed for their abilities related to nursing, pharmacology, mother and child health, ethics, medical pathology and infectious diseases, and surgical pathology fundamentals. Each candidate will be presented with an actual patient to manage and answer questions related to the case.
Accounting candidates demonstrate the practical skills they have acquired in Financial Accounting, Taxation, Accounting ICT, and Management Accounting using a variety of accounting software and tools.
Candidates for Science National Practical Examinations will undergo project-based evaluations, during which they will demonstrate skills acquired in biology, chemistry and physics through research, demonstrating collaboration in a variety of science projects.
NESA data show that in the actual exams, the technology middle school has 36,267 candidates, accounting for 29 transactions, 3,829 TTC candidates and 3,893 candidates.
There are 439 candidates for the associate nursing program, while the science combination has 22,530 candidates.
