Buffalo, NY – Former NHL forward Eric Stahl has rejoined the Buffalo Sabres this time. This time, the team announced Wednesday in the front office role as a special assistant to general manager Kevin Adams.
Stahl will be involved in all aspects of the hockey division in his newly created role. This comes after Sabres executives complete a season-ending meeting with owner Terry Pegra. The 40-year-old, who retired two years ago after 18 seasons, joined the front office, featuring three assistant GMs: Jason Karmanos, Mark Jakubowski and Jerry Forton.

Stahl meets Adams again. They were teammates on the 2006 Carolina Hurricane Stanley Cup winning team. Stahl also played 32 games for the Sabres in 2021 before trading with Montreal.
“When I was looking for ways to strengthen our existing staff, I wanted to add someone to our group, which has a fresh perspective and direct experience to win hockey at all levels,” Adams said of Stahl, who won the Olympic gold medal in 2010 and Canada’s leading world championship in 2007. “He has done it all as a player and I know his experience and knowledge is invaluable to our team.
Staal’s employment comes as the Sabers expanded the NHL-Record Playoff Drought to 14 seasons as Adams has increased criticism over his five-year tenure as GM.
Stahl, one of four players who retired his numbers in the Hurricane, spent 12 seasons with Carolina in a career that also includes stops for the New York Rangers, Minnesota and Florida.
“Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to have joined so many successful teams and hopefully I can rely on some of those experiences to help the organization move forward,” Staal said.
