United’s narrow victory at Dingwall means they are confident they are almost in the top half, regardless of their outcome against Hart and St. Johnston before the split.
Data company Opta gave Jim Goodwin’s team a chance to be 99% in the top six, considering the difference between the six-point buffer and the excellent targets in St. Mirren, Motherwell and Ross County.
At the other end of the spectrum, the county’s chances are evaluated as next to 0.3% zero. Given the 4-point gap and the difference in goals is much lower to make up for the sixth place Heart.
Heart is one point above both St. Mirren and Motherwell, but the difference in Tynecastle’s excellent goals deserves almost an extra point at this stage.
However, Neil Critchley’s side side leaves Motherwell in the final match before Split.
St Mirren is home to Ross County Dundee, who is about to overhaul his heart in a dominant 5-1 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday.
And Motherwell boss Michael Wimmer hopes to bounce back from his defeat by Aberdeen when he travels to rugby park before a very important match against Hart the following weekend.
“We lost to a good team, but the table is so tight, anything is possible,” Wimmer said.
“It’s good that we race in the top six, but it’s important to play for 90 minutes.”
“We have to focus on our next game with Kilmarnock, and we hope we are still there when we play hearts at home.
“The table is very tight so I think we’ll end up in Game 33.”
