Police said the attack was caused by suspicions of Al-Shabaab fighter jets that launched the attack at dawn.
At least six police officers have been killed and four have been injured after an attack on a police camp in Kenya on suspicion of fighters from Somali Al-Shabaab Group.
Kenya police said in a report on Sunday that the attack took place in Garissa County, eastern Kenya, on the border with Somalia.
The report added that the attackers launched an attack around dawn at the camp’s housing police reserves and “used various weapons to overrun the camp.”
“Six deaths have been injured and six have been confirmed at the hospital,” he said.
Al-Shabaab has not commented on the attack yet, but the group frequently engages in cross-border activities against military and civilian targets.
The attack comes a week after the US embassy issued an advisory warning, warning travelers against visiting several locations, including Kenya County along the border with Somalia, due to the threat of the attack.
For many years, al-Shabaab, who has been linked to al-Qaeda, has overthrew the Somali central government and has fought to establish its own rule of law based on its interpretation of Islamic Sharia law.
The latest attack comes after Al-Shabaab claimed Tuesday blame for a roadside bomb near Somali’s presidential palace.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned attacks targeting convoys and said UN support for the Somali people and government “promotes the fight against terrorism and efforts to peace and stability,” UN deputy spokesman Farhan Hak said.
The British embassy in Mogadishu, the capital, also condemned the attack and reaffirmed its support for Somali’s counterterrorist efforts.
“The UK is a steady partner of the Somali government in fighting violent extremists responsible for this sleazy attack,” the embassy said in a statement.
At the beginning of March, Al-Shabaab fighters attacked a hotel in central Somalia. There, government officials and tribal leaders met to discuss their efforts to manage the group. Several people have been reportedly killed in the attack.
