Swedish police have arrested six people in connection with the triple murder at a hair salon in Uppsala.
The suspects range from 18 to under 45 years of age, according to the state prosecutor’s office. One is suspected of killing on Tuesday evening.
The 16-year-old was arrested hours after the incident was released Friday.
The three victims shot at the salon were between 15 and 20 years old. The attack came on the eve of the Walpurgis Spring Festival, where a large crowd descended on the streets of Uppsala.
Police are investigating the possibility that the shooting is related to gang crime.
Local media said one of the people killed at the hair salon was reportedly known to police.
The victim was involved in a police investigation into a planned attack on gang leader Ismail Abd’s relatives, according to the report. The person was never charged.
Uppsala, a university town in northern Stockholm, has long been the home of rival gang leaders Abd and Rawazida.
Their new chapter in the Lawn War began in 2023 when Abd’s mother was murdered in his home.
Sweden has seen a wave of teenage gang crimes in recent years, with suspects being charged with a range of crimes ranging from vandalism to murder.
To tackle the issue, the Swedish government has proposed a new law that will allow police to eavesdrop on children under the age of 15.
