This is how Social Security was created in the US
Social Security benefits are talked about a lot in the US, but have you wondered how benefits work and whether they will be taxed? This is a malfunction.
I’m just curious
The Social Security Administration has made plans to cut off Onphone services, providing clarity to recipients on Wednesday as to who must verify their direct identity.
The move comes weeks after the agency announced “stronger identity verification procedures,” and officials said it would better protect against fraudulent claims, although more in-person visits are needed. The announcement led to public protests.
Now, instead of requiring applicants and beneficiaries to verify the online or in person identities of certain services, agents must “have to be face-to-face only if flagged by our anti-combustion system,” Social Security said in a post on X on Wednesday.
The new security measures were set to take effect on March 31, and acutely affected Americans who are unable to travel or have no reliable internet access.
“We are hearing from our customers, our councils, our supporters and others, and we are updating our policies to provide better customer service to the country’s most vulnerable groups,” Social Security Commissioner Lee Dudek said in a March 27 news release obtained by USA Today.
Dudek added, “Medicare, disability, and SSI applications are exempt from face-to-face identity as there are multiple opportunities during the decision process to verify an individual’s identity.”

When will Social Security’s “anti-fulard check” be launched?
The Anti-Flad Check said: “All claims made via phone and flag claims with fraud risk indicators will begin on Monday, April 14th.
Those who change their direct deposit information online are also subject to anti-fraud checks, the agency said.
“We will continue to implement 100% identity proof on all in-person claims,” Social Security said. “There are 4.5 million phone bills per year and there may be 70K flagging. Phones remain a viable option for the general public.”
How can I know if I need to schedule an in-person visit?
The answer depends on your needs and current circumstances.
Who needs to directly verify their identity?
If you fall into one of the following categories, you must visit your local Social Security Agency to verify your identity:
Anyone applying for retirement, survivor, or assistance (spouse or child) benefits will change the direct deposit information for any type of benefits that will receive payments through a paper check (to change/update mailing address)
What services does Social Security offer online?
The applicant or beneficiary may make changes or requests online, including:
“Some tasks need to be started online and finished in the office, but starting online saves time,” the agency said. “We’ll help you schedule appointments to visit as needed. If you don’t start online, please call to make an appointment before you visit.”
Social Security beneficiaries or applicants can schedule or use the Social Security office locator to find the nearest office by calling 1-800-772-1213.
