MOGADISHU – The Somali UN aircraft today performed a successful emergency landing in Mogadishu after detecting a malfunction in the landing gear.
The aircraft, run by the United Nations Assistance Office in Somalia (UNSOS), was on the way in a normal flight on its way from Mogadishu to Baidoa when its crew identified obstacles that prevented the landing wheels from properly deploying.
The pilot quickly returned the aircraft to the capital, Aden Ade International Airport, to safely address the issue.
Aside from one passenger reported to be slightly injured during the aircraft evacuation, all remaining passengers were unharmed.
The United Nations in Somalia praised the prompt and professional response of the crew and airport emergency services and staff, and its preparation and assistance ensured smooth handling of the situation.
“We commend the collaboration between UNSOS and the Somali Civil Aviation Authority for enabling this effective response,” said UNSOS director, Secretary General Aisa Kirabo Kacyira.
