MOGADISHU – After the aircraft experienced a technical failure, a plane crash occurred at Mogadishu’s Addenden International Airport.
Hassan explained that the incident occurred when an aircraft was about to land at Baidoa Airport experienced a malfunction in the front wheels, preventing takeoff. As a result, the plane was forced to return to the airport in Mogadishu, which was safely grounded.
He confirmed that security forces and airport officials respond quickly to the emergency and ensure the safety of all 22 people, all UN staff. All passengers survived the incident but suffered minor injuries.
Hassan also emphasized that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the mechanical failure.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the safety and maintenance of aircraft operating at Aden Adde Airport, and highlights the need for strengthening security and operational standards to prevent further accidents.
