Remains of 40 people found in Mass Graves in Limpopo Cemetery
Limpopo police and forensic teams have excavated the bodies of about 40 people who have been secretly buried so unco-free in two large graves at Mook Gophong Cemetery by a funeral home contracted by the state health department. Neil Sikwanbana, a spokesman for the Limpopo Health Department, said the individual was actually declared poor. In such cases, the municipality is usually responsible for the burial. However, as local governments at the time faced their own challenges, the department had to intervene and secure the service provider to carry out burials. Health officials are investigating the incident and are prohibited from entering the cemetery.

The court upheld the Court of Appeals’ decision and ordered the restoration of citizenship of all affected individuals since the enactment of the law in 1995. The DA welcomed the ruling and called it a groundbreaking victory after a decade of legal battle.
