Extreme heat warning in the Western Cape

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning in the Western Cape’s extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions, with temperatures expected to reach their 40s as low as 30s on Wednesday, EWN reports. Residents and visitors are required to stay in cool areas, stay hydrated, and take precautions such as wearing light clothing to protect themselves from potential health risks. Weather forecaster Joe Malevan also said Verd fires are expected in the West Coast, Cape Wineland, Central Kalu, Oberberg and Garden Route districts due to a combination of West Coast, hot temperatures, dry conditions and strong winds. The public is encouraged to take necessary measures to ensure safety and prevent a fire from occurring.

Former President Motlan raises questions about the viability of Spaza Shops

Former President Kgalema Motlanthe has expressed concern about the feasibility of informal transactions such as Spaza Shops as a solution to the unemployment crisis for young people in South Africa, SABC News reports. Speaking at the University of Johannesburg, where Motlante earned an honorary doctorate, argued that informal trade often represents unstable survivalist labor rather than sustainable entrepreneurship. He said there is a need for industrialization, infrastructure development and a stable employment structure to promote meaningful economic growth. Motlanthe spoke about the importance of strengthening South Africa’s trade ties with key partners such as the European Union and the US, highlighting its important role in the country’s economic stability and growth.

Gauteng denies the outbreak of Northern Pretoria disease

Gauteng Province urged its public to remain calm after confirming that there was no disease outbreak in Pretoria North, EWN reports. This follows reports of five suspected Myiasis infection at ODI District Hospital in Tshwane. Further testing revealed that two patients had unrelated abscesses, while the other three were discharged. The department also dismissed false reports regarding the outbreak of staphylococcal infections, as it investigated allegations of myasis outbreak and found no evidence to support them. When flies lay eggs on wet clothes, bedding, or unsanitary surfaces, muscle disease develops and cannot spread from one person to another. Gauteng Health spokesman Motalatale Modiba said there was no cause for panic, adding that precautions include ironing clothes, maintaining hygiene, treating pet treatment and avoiding dry clothes on the ground.
