Magistrate grants bail in a sexual assault case of Zanzhou

Magistrate Ernest Mbembele granted R10,000 bail to the 41-year-old Congo Asylum Seeker, accused of Zanthu Night Club assault, to be released on R10,000, and determined that he had demonstrated that it was in the interest of justice to release him, EWN reports. The accused, who cannot be named because he is due for more identity parades, was arrested after a video surfaced showing the young man being sexually infringed at the Pretoria nightclub. During his bail debate, he argued that his family was financially dependent on him. Despite the serious nature of the allegations, the magistrate said the personal circumstances of the accused, including his role as a financial provider to his wife and children, outweighed concerns about the seriousness of the crime, the risk of escape, the strength of the state’s case, and his safety.

The report reveals “severe irregularities” in the collapse of Georgeville

Noxolo Kiviet, chairman of the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC), said justice has not yet been offered to families who lost their loved ones at George Building Collapse, which in May 2024 claimed to live with 34 people. Kiviett said the findings revealed serious irregularities before and during construction of the multi-storey building. She said no arrests were made and the comprehensive report would guide procedures to ensure accountability and help bring justice to grieving families.

Life sentence for men who raped women at the muzzle in Mpumalanga

The Belfast Regional Court in Mpumalanga sentenced 26-year-old Sifiso Mokoena to life in prison while gathering fires in Waterval Boven for raping a 40-year-old woman at gunpoint in July 2020, IOL reports. According to state police spokesman Lt. Col. Jab Ndubane, Mokoena threatened the victim with a firearm before attacking her. After his arrest, Mokoena was denied bail and the case was transferred to Belfast Court, where he was convicted on April 8, 2025. The court also declared that he was not fit to own the firearm and ordered the seized of the firearm’s license.
