Warning of the Northern Cape’s intense storm
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow Level 4 warning against severe thunderstorms and heavy torrential rains in the northern and northeastern parts of the Northern Cape, with potential flood risks in informal settlements, lowlands and infrastructure, the IOL reports. Yellow Level 2 warnings have been issued in the Northern and Southeast Cape, the Western Free State, and the extreme northwest west. In Gauten, recent heavy rains have led to several tragic incidents, including the recovery of three bodies from the overflowing river and the rescue of two people, one of which was left behind in a vehicle on the Rietspruit River.
Arrest suspected in fatal Easterie fire
Police are investigating arson and double murder following a home fire in the forest village of Eersterivier, EWN reports. Officers arrive to find firefighters fighting the flames, and after the fire goes out, they discover the bodies of a seven-year-old boy and an unidentified person inside the house. Kleinvlei police have launched a lawsuit and authorities are appealing to the public for information that could help with the investigation.
Domestic workers held at the robbery in Limpopo
Three people, including a 26-year-old domestic worker, will appear in court after being arrested in connection with a robbery at a home in Anka Park, Tuzanine, Limpopo. The domestic workers, considered to be the mastermind, are said to have provided information and access to the robbery. P Oris also recovered a significant amount of money in both stolen firearms, ammunition cache, and both local and foreign currency. The suspect is faced with charges including House robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and perjury.
