We have identified security breaches affecting one of Congress’s 25 YouTube streaming services that are integrated with official social media accounts. This violation resulted in fraudulent uploads of content that did not match the agency’s work.
The Congressional digital team quickly stepped in to end the compromised stream. A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the violation, but additional safeguards have been introduced to enhance the integrity of the digital infrastructure.
Congress’s multiple YouTube streaming services provide real-time, unfiltered access to committee meetings and House sittings that ensure a wide range of general engagement through integration with social media platforms. This expanded digital reach increases public engagement and openness, as mandated by the Constitution, but also increases cybersecurity risks that require continuous surveillance and enhanced security measures. We continue to be committed to maintaining the safe and reliable use of these platforms for the public.
