Kwazulu-Natal Police Chief investigates corrupt officials, politicians
Kwazulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has strengthened the fight against corruption and is targeting corrupt officials and politicians to abuse the SAP Secret Fund, despite a smear campaign that has caused personal threats and derailed his efforts, IOL reports. In an exclusive interview, Mkhwanazi revealed how officials and politicians used the fund by fraudulently charging payments for unused property, termination of such contracts and pledging to reform the fund’s oversight. He also highlighted his crackdown on robbers in cash, which resulted in insider collaborations that resulted in 90% of these crimes. Despite accusations of corruption against him, which he dismissed as “fake news,” Mkhwanazi has garnered widespread support from business leaders and KZN communities for his crime-fighting initiatives, including reducing the activity of the Construction Mafia and boosting tourism through strengthening security measures.
