Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean McPherson signs three municipal and understanding memorandums (MOUs) to improve infrastructure delivery at the local government level.
The signature will take place today in Pretoria.
This follows the decision to undertake the pilot project in three local governments at the Presidential Infrastructure Coordination Council, chaired by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The nationwide “recruitment” initiative will involve Infrastructure South Africa (ISA) working with local governments to introduce rapid infrastructure interventions aimed at improving the implementation and delivery of infrastructure projects.
“The aim is to address the cost overruns, poor workmanship and inadequate planning that have often plagued the city’s infrastructure initiatives,” the Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure said in a statement.
Mous will be signed with Metsimaholo Local Government in Free State, Umgeni Local Government in Kwazulu-Natal and Govan Mbeki Local Government in Mpumalanga.
“These municipalities will receive targeted support as part of the first phase of the project,” the department said.
