The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) deadline granted beneficiaries to exchange Sassa gold cards for new postbank cards.
“The deadline for Sassa beneficiaries to exchange Sassa Gold cards for Postbank Black cards was extended on April 30, 2025, allowing Sassa and the Ministry of Social Development to complete the migration of outstanding beneficiaries.”
The minister explained the media following the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
During a briefing in Pretoria, Ntshavheni said the Cabinet received the latest updates on the move to the new safe and secure postbank black card for Sassa Grant.
“Postbank meets eight of the Reserve Bank of South Africa’s nine requirements to pay social grants, and the last outstanding item is the physical exchange of cards,” she said.
The government initially set a deadline for transitioning to new cards on February 28th, followed by a second extension on March 20th, 2025.
New Post Bank Black Cards are available at a variety of retailers, including Checker, Shoprite, Pick N Pay, Usave, Boxer and more. To receive a new card, you must present a valid South African ID or a temporary ID.
Postbank has also made it easy for beneficiaries to find the closest location in all states where they can collect Postbank black cards. Beneficiaries can use mobile phones.
