South Africa: Sassa Gold Card to continue working after May 31, 2025

Postbank has confirmed that South Africa’s Social Security Agency (Sassa) gold cards will continue to function beyond May 31, 2025.

In a statement Thursday, Postbank said beneficiaries of grants, including gold cards, will continue to be paid to those cards until further notice.

According to Postbank, the Sassa Gold card will continue to work with all payment systems, including ATMs and POS machines. Beneficiaries can continue to withdraw cash at all Postbank partner retailers and continue to swipe for purchase.

This means that even after May 31, 2025, the Gold Card will continue to function as it is now.

“In line with our commitment to ensure that the beneficiaries have no access to the grants and that there is no disruption in grant payments, the Gold Card will continue to function until all beneficiaries move to the new Black Card.

“Therefore, we are confident that this announcement will address concerns related to payments for beneficiaries who have not yet acquired a black card,” explained Postbank CEO Nikki Mbengashe.

The CEO advised social grant beneficiaries to ignore the call to change banks.

“We beg them to be vigilant about misleading information that their gold cards won’t work and that they need to change banks for this,” she said.

Additionally, beneficiaries are required to always respond to postbank public communications only when it comes to Sassa Gold and Black cards, as the sole authorized entities responsible for issuing these cards.

It is recommended that beneficiaries do not believe what is being said whenever they come across information about a card that has not been communicated by Postbank.

Postbank said this would prevent beneficiaries from being misunderstood as entities have recently been observed to increase the amount of misinformation communicated about their Sassa cards.

“Because the Gold Cards continue to function and all beneficiaries can continue to use those cards and their black cards to access payments, PostBank will notify the beneficiaries that they have temporarily suspended the distribution of new black cards until further notice.

“But this will not affect anyone who currently has a Post Bank Black card because the card continues to function normally,” the Entity said.

However, the distribution site for bank cards will be made available to the beneficiaries to access the following services:

・Pin reset.

– Reissue of black cards for beneficiaries who have experienced a lost/stolen card incident.

– Beneficiaries attempting to register as a replacement for payments without a card.

Postbank has expanded its appreciation to all grant beneficiaries for cooperation and understanding as it is committed to improving banking experience and service quality standards. -sanews.gov.za
