Portfolio Transportation Committee Chairman Donald Seramorella expressed his sincere distress to the families of those killed in the Eastern Cape Minibus taxi accident on Sunday.
He said it was sadness that so many people died. Media reports say 15 people were killed in a head-on collision at an R63 outside Fort Beaufort on their way to Adelaide. The accident occurred after midnight on Sunday when a minibus taxi collided with a van.
Seramolera said: “I was beginning to see the outcomes of road safety plans over the past Easter weekends, and sadly this happened. It’s a great sadness to have to lose these innocent lives that are not worthy of passing by like this.”
He added: “South Africans deserve better and we never get bored of calling for all road users to be vigilant and always to ensure the safety of others on the road.”
Seramorella reiterated that road safety is a business for everyone.
