Morning opening: Witkov in Moscow
US peace mission Steve Witkov is planning to travel to Moscow today for further discussions with Russia, including President Vladimir Putin, about Ukraine’s Donald Trump’s peace plan.
Wanting to get results 100 days before Trump next week, Witkov must find a way to convey the president’s sense of dissatisfaction with Russia’s attack on Kiev on Thursday.
Russia’s attack on Ukraine
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told CBS News that Russia is “ready to reach the deal, but there are still some specific points… we need to tweak it, and we are busy with this.”
However, there is still a major point of attachment as Ukrainian President Voldymi Zelenki repeatedly refuses to give up any of the Russian occupied territories, including Crimea, which is strategically located.
On Thursday, he explained, “We will do everything our partners have proposed, only inconsistent with our laws and the constitution we cannot.”
And the Ukrainian president has a strong alliance to European leaders such as Kiel Starmer and Emmanuel Macron and NATO executive director Mark Latte.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also criticized the proposed contract that Ukraine said he “gets nothing” under the terms Trump offered – the US president last night claimed that Russia “stops the war and robbing the nation” was “a rather big concession.”
It’s Friday, April 25th, 2025, and this is Jakubukurupa, and this is a European live performance.
good morning.
