Sudan: 22 years of silence, Darfur’s immunity led to the worst atrocities against women and children in the Sudan War

Sudan is an African crisis, and what is happening in Sudan is a manifestation of a very profound crisis affecting and affecting various countries across the continent. The beginning of this conflict and the campaign of atrocities taking place throughout Sudan. We, my colleagues and people in my organization (Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa – Siha) have said that Sudan is too big to collapse on his own. Sudan is the third largest country in Africa. I think Sudan’s borders are around six or seven countries. This conflict, its symptoms, and its effects have affected seven African countries and beyond.

Viral video of civilians killed in Sudan

It’s a proxy war. It is a war that uses the bodies of women, girls and civilians, children and children as a strategic strategy. What is happening in my country now is undoubtedly the result of years and years of immunity and silence on the atrocities and violence against women and girls and civilians taking place in Darfur. And of course, most of us asked if we remembered about Darfur, but many of us wondered what had happened in Darfur. And the reality is that brutality never stops, such as violence, murder, sexual violence against women and girls, and forced eviction of civilians. It has been going on throughout the last 22 years.

The children died of thirst to escape from the Zamzam camp

The only thing that happened is that the international community has stopped talking about Darfur. Unfortunately, as Africans, we did (similarly). Something terrible happened in 2020. The only surveillance and observation deck, Darfur’s Hybrid African Union/UN peacekeeping mission has been suspended. My organization has been working at Darfur since 2005, so I’ve seen how conflict evolved. So we clearly observed how these situations got worse and worse to cover the entire country.

Why did the evacuated Sudanese not return to Khartoum?

We observed the flow of weapons as feminists and as women’s organizations. We blow whi. I explained the Security Council and talked about the volatility of the security situation in Sudan and the flow of weapons, and the fact that Sudan has multiple troops, and the situation is very tense, but it has been undermined and undermined how serious the situation is in Sudan. As I said, this war is the fact that women and children’s bodies are used as strategies and weapons of war.

The Sudan War is spreading

It happened before, and there was no accountability process. The perpetrators of these crimes included former President Omar al-Bashir, who was indicted by the ICC, but continued to rule for another decade after his indictment and were received by many African countries. The leaders of the RSF and other Army commanders were directly involved in war crimes and other Army commanders. The women were on the front line. Sexual violence and crime against children began on April 15th in the capital Khartoum, which continued and expanded across the country. We struggle with conflict-related sexual violence, forced loss of failure, sexual slavery, and the prevalence of all sorts of crimes committed in a systematic and deliberate manner against women and children. Sudan also has a long history of criminalizing women. I would now say that Sudan is the capital of sexual violence.

The momentum of the Sudanese uprising has been lost due to repeated cycles of political arrangements and processes that have often been used to restrain Sudanese uprisings and revolutions against dictatorships.

Sudan is based… I always say we are not in a good neighborhood. I don’t care about democratic Sudan. Often, our political arrangements end with a hybrid government where our revolution leads the perpetrators to power. And usually those who have guns, they have the right to the guns that hold the advantage and suppress those who really want a peaceful transition for democracy and peace.

Sudanese people resisted, died of democracy, and Sudanese women put their bodies at the forefront, but this instrumental and systemic violence is largely about killing all possibilities and peace and hope for democracy, equal citizenship, and women’s presence in public places. And many of the women who were raped and assaulted were told that you were happening to you because of public spaces, especially female protesters attacked before the war. It’s happening. It was effective by disclaimer and by turning a blind eye to it.

The work was compiled from the Press Briefing Interaction on April 10th, and brings attention to the Sudan War, approaching the anniversary of April 15th. Details #Keepeyesonsudan #sudanisbleeding #standwithsudan
