Khartoum – Sudan’s capital Khartoum was recaptured by the regular army (SAF) from the Rapid Support Force (RSF) Militiamen on March 26, slowly returning to normalcy.
Today, on April 4, citizens were able to cross the Omdurman Bridge to Khartoum for the first time since the war broke out in Sudan almost two years ago. Omdurman is Khartoum, a satellite city of Khartoum that was captured by the RSF since the outbreak of the war on April 15, 2023 and ruled most of the administrative district, including the Presidential Palace.
After recapturing the city, the Sudanese government is trying to restore normal life in the Khartoum region, including cities of the same name, Omdurman and Bale.
At its first meeting at Khartoum headquarters since the outbreak of war, the Khartoum provincial administration announced a package of emergency measures on April 2nd. This includes solving water and electricity supply issues, operating hospitals, providing emergency food assistance, and improving environmental conditions. During its withdrawal from Khartoum province, RSF extremists are allegedly committed crimes against civilians. At least 89 people were killed by the RSF in several villages north of Omdurman on March 27, according to the local government. Meanwhile, RSF Deputy Commander Abdel Rahim Hamdan Dagro threatened on video to invade two northern provinces, suggesting his intention to continue the war despite his recent defeat.
