WASHINGTON, D.C. — Representative Gregory W. Meeks, a ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Sarah Jacobs, a ranking member of the African Subcommittee, welcomed representatives Sheilachelfils McCormick, Jonathan Jackson, Pramirajayapal, Johnny Orssoukeski and Democrats, who are subcommittee members of Africa. The outbreak of the Sudan War:
“When we can forever end the brutal violence committed by the political parties fighting in Sudan, and return to the path of peace and civil-led democracy. On this gloomy day, which marks two years since the outbreak of the Sudan War, we have defended the Sudan Army (SAF) and the Sudan Army (SAF) to attack Maritia in order to protect the false table. We will adhere to our repetitive commitment to protecting civilians, ending retaliatory killings and ensuring accountability for the perpetrators of war crimes and other atrocities.
“External parties like the United Arab Emirates must cooperate to stop the fueling of conflicts by arming the war parties and instead work with international partners to pressure political parties to reach the agreement. All conflict stakeholders must recognize that for a peace agreement to be successful, members of Sudanese civil society must be included as full participants and contributors, and elections.
“We call on President Trump and his administration to stop the situation in Sudan through illegal aid reductions in Sudan and to immediately restore all US foreign aid for Sudan and its humanitarian crisis. Mutual Aid Associations, like the Emergency Response Room, are an important lifeline for citizens affected by the conflict, embracing organizations of united people in search of more international support and seeking more international support, from this national nightmare.”

Additional background: Since the start of the war, more than 150,000 people have been killed in Sudan, and more than 12 million people have been expelled from their homes, and 25 million, now half of Sudan’s population, are facing serious food insecurity during the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. The US State Department has found that the parties that the RSF and SAF fight against are engaged in other atrocities, including war crimes and massive sexual violence. The State Department also decided that the RSF has committed genocide. Over the weekend, the RSF escalated the attacks at El Fasher, targeting civilians, relief workers and life-saving services at Zamzam, Abushuk and Naivasha IDP camps.
