Dr Hussein Ali Mwinini, president of Zanzibar and chairman of the Revolutionary Council, urged Tanzanian ambassadors who have been appointed to represent overseas to prioritize Tanzania’s diplomacy and actively promote the investment opportunities available in Tanzania.
Dr. Mwinyi called at a farewell meeting held at the State Capitol in Zanzibar, where he met with the recently appointed ambassador before departing to his respective service stations. Ambassadors included Dr. Habib Kanbanga (Rwanda), CP Suzane Kaganda (Zimbabwe), Mobhale Matini (Sweden), and CP Hamad Hamad (Mozambique).
In his speech, President Mwinyi encouraged ambassadors to become advocates for economic promotion by branding Tanzania as a safe and attractive investment destination. He particularly emphasized the importance of promoting blue economy policy and the tourism sector. It points out that Zanzibar still needs significant investments in key sectors, particularly fisheries, tourism, oil and gas.
The president further noted that international relations today are increasingly focusing on economic cooperation. He called on the ambassadors to strengthen economic ties between Tanzania and the country they were assigned to, highlighting undeveloped opportunities in the energy sector, including port investment, freight transport and oil and gas.
Speaking about trade, Dr. Mwinyi urged the ambassador to assist Tanzania in identifying new markets for its products, particularly spices produced abundantly in Zanzibar. He also emphasized the need to promote service-based tourism and natural attraction to attract more visitors from each host country.
In response, the ambassador committed to following the president’s guidance and using it as a foundation for carrying out his diplomatic duties.
They assured him that he would promote Tanzania’s economic benefits and attract more investors, particularly to Zanzibar.
