Dar Es Salaam – National Anti-Human Trafficking Network (Tanahut) is asking government authorities, including the police and the judiciary, to take prompt and appropriate action in response to human trafficking reports and incidents to ensure justice for victims of such crimes.
Speaking to the press, Tanahat’s director, Advocate Edwin Mugambilla, warned that human trafficking is a major challenge in the country and requires strong cooperation from all law enforcement agencies. He also advised that the National Secretariat for the Fighting against Human Trafficking should receive increased budgetary assistance to effectively address the issue, such as dealing with sabotage from certain investigators such as police.
Additionally, Abdallah Misika, a retired police commander who reflected these sentiments, urged the public to actively participate in the fight against human trafficking by reporting the case early to enable criminal arrest and prosecution.
On her part, Tanahat National Coordinator Halima Konda highlighted the importance of providing additional protection to victims of human trafficking.
She also suggested that suspects in such cases should not be granted bail when brought to court to prevent threats or continuing criminal activities.
Tanahat continues to urge the government and the public to cooperate in eradicating this crime.
