French police rescued the father of a cryptocurrency billionaire who was invited and detained for ransom in the outskirts of Paris.
The nameless man was attacked during the day in central Paris on Thursday. He was bundled into a delivery van by four men wearing balaclavas, police sources told Le Figaro newspaper.
French media say one finger went missing to the victim when he was rescued from a Paraisso home south of Paris on Saturday.
Four suspects have been arrested. This is the third aid to date this year to be connected to the French cryptocurrency industry.
The victim of the latest incident is reportedly in his 50s. The Le Parisien newspaper said his temptation demanded that his wealthy son pay a ransom of between 50,000,000 and 7 million euros.
Police were reportedly led to their home by telephone signals. Four suspects have been questioned.
In a post on X late Saturday, French Home Minister Bruno Leciro congratulated investigators on “an exceptional job to free this man.”
The incident occurred less than four months after David Balland, co-founder of Cryptocurrency Firm Ledger, was accused of his wife at his central France home.
They were rescued by police within a few days. Mr. Barand had also cut his fingers.
The criminals had demanded a ransom of 10 million euros (£8.5 million). Six men and one woman were arrested in connection with the incident.
And in early January, a 56-year-old man was found alive in car boots near a city in the western part of Le Mans.
According to media reports, his adduct has tried to force money from his son, a Dubai-based cryptocurrency influencer.
