Wichita, Kansas (KWCH) – Meteorologist Payton Sanders says warm weather is approaching in the coming days as the dangers of sudden winds and high fires return.
The cold temperatures on Sundays will start from the cold start of the mid-20s to mid-20s. Afternoon highs reach the mid- to mid-60s.
Much warmer weather is expected at the beginning of the week, with highs reaching the lower 80s limit on Monday and Tuesday. Record highs are possible in some locations.
If gusts return during this period, the fire risk will reach critical levels on Monday and extreme levels on Tuesday.
The wind rise will be ahead of the next storm system that will travel through Kansas to Wednesday on Tuesday night.
The system will mix rain and snow over most of the state on Tuesday night, leading to prolonged activity in central and eastern Kansas on Wednesday mornings.
When snow falls, there will be a gust of wind at 55 mph and when snow falls at 55 mph, you can expect a drop in visibility.
Lower visibility can lead to dangerous travel conditions, but snow accumulation remains in light as it leads to the melting of the snow as warm underground temperatures drop. Still, some light buildup is possible on grassy or raised surfaces.
