It’s National Sleep Awareness Month, and whether you’re looking for a Zen moment in a bustling city or while you’re looking for a peaceful retreat to recharge at a remote destination, the hotel has expanded its offering to meet the growing traveler demand for sleep tourism.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, more than 50 million people in the United States have sleep problems, and more than 100 million Americans report not getting enough sleep.

During Sleep Awareness Week (annual period launched by the National Sleep Foundation, March 9th to 15th), the nonprofit has an educational drive to highlight the key connections between individual sleep, health and well-being, while hospitality brands highlight special programs and new products to enhance the guest sleep experience while traveling.
“When we really think about what we offer most guests, we’re a place to sleep. So essentially, we’re a sleep company,” Amanda Al Masri, global vice president of wellness at Hilton, told “Good Morning America.”
Hilton’s 2025 Travel Trends Report showed that sleep tourism has been on the rise since it first made headlines in 2024.
“It’s become very clear that we wanted to do more in this area,” said Al Masri of the decision to highlight the great sleep amenities across the Hilton portfolio. She then sought help from Brigham at Harvard Medical School in the Department of Sleep Medicine and Dr. Rebecca Robbins, assistant professor of medicine at Women’s Hospital.
“She is an incredible sleep researcher and was able to translate it into a hotel environment for us,” Hilton Wellness head described their robust new products, ranging from restorative treatments for jet lags to breathing sleep rituals.

Room design, mattress type, bedding, temperature and lighting can all affect the baseline of comfort for guests to get a comfortable night’s sleep, and many facilities around the world emphasize more robust rest-specific programming and amenities.
“A truly fun example,” highlighted by Al Masri, a “wellness retreat that we stood up last year” like Conrad in Orlando. The concrete and secluded environment said it offers a menu of special foods made for meditation, breathing tasks, yoga and “after power” made for your day.

Florida properties also offer wellness suites “to support the best night rest” with indoor amenities such as “anaplin and aromatherapy shower” and fitness kits with recovery tools.
“It’s not just when you put your head on a pillow. You need to set yourself for success before going to bed, and you need to set yourself to take advantage of your sleep in the morning,” explained Almasli. “So we really understand that the sleep ecosystem is trying to incorporate our arms.”
Many Hilton Spas offer sleep-centric treatments, like the recovery of new calming slumber rugs in Waldorf Astoria Chicago with CBD treatments. Waldorf Astoria Park City, Utah offers a 90-minute sleep ritual full-body massage that utilizes organic geranium and jasmine oil that boosts breathing tasks and sleep, focusing on pressure points that induce rest.

“In today’s world, rests are a rare luxury. We wanted to create a reset experience, not just for guests to stay,” Bruno Wergenst, managing director of the hotel, told GMA.
A new, intimate 60-minute experience takes place at the end of the day when the guest or couple is shoved into bed and ready to rest. When the lights go dark, the soundbass musicians guide guests through soothing sessions, dissolving stress and promoting deep, resilient sleep. The experience ends with a final mantra, then the musician gently turns off the lights, releases his toes, and locks the rear door.
Santa Monica believes that “sleep is not just amenities, it’s a truly recovery part of a stay,” so this year the team collaborated with Martha Sofa and Surya Spa to introduce the authentic Ayurvedic sleep ritual.
The hotel also has a recovery suite with hot planter therapy that reduces muscle tension and helps to prepare your body for rest. The room has a custom organic mattress and blackout curtains to provide an ideal sleeping environment, as well as a curated sleep soundscape.
