Gustav Nyquist will remain in the central division, with the veteran signing a one-year contract worth $3.25 million on Wednesday with the Winnipeg Jets.
Nyquist has scored 12 goals this past season and registered 28 points, but is the five 20 goal scorer who reached double digits in 11 consecutive campaigns. He extended his winning streak from 2024-25, starting with Nashville predators before moving to the Minnesota Wild.
Whether it’s the Jets or another team, those interested in signing Nyquist were aiming to add him another top nine winger option. But as for the Jets’ particular situation, signing Nyquist comes as they wait for what happens with Nikolaji Ehlers, the most well-known player remaining in the free agency.

Finding ways to potentially replace the productions created by Ehlers has been one of the challenges Jets faced, among other things, into a free agency.
The jet came in with a cap space of $24.513 million. They started early by agreeing to a deal with Winnipeg native and three-time Stanley Cup champion Jonathan Tooes.
However, there were concerns beyond whether they could re-sign the ehlers they needed to face. They decided to decide with forwards from Mason Appleton and Brandon Taneff. Both will be signing the Utah Mammoth on Tuesday, with Detroit Red Wings and Tanef signing on Wednesday, leaving for a free agency with Appleton.
Jets general manager Kevin Chebel Dayoff had to close his new contract for the four-player, limited free agent class led by 27-goal scorer Gabriel Viraldi.
The Jets also signed a one-year deal worth $1 million for Tanner Pearson, who had 12 goals and 27 points with the Vegas Golden Knights using free agency.
With Nyquist as part of the haul, including Pearson and Toews, Puckpedia predicts the Jets have $19.063 billion in the remaining cap space.
