I don’t even know when he left Wembley after Sunday’s Carabao Cup final. It was such a night.
With my son Will and daughter Chloe, we went straight to the party from the stadium at Box Park in Wembley Way, celebrating with Newcastle players and hundreds of fans.
The champagne and beer were flowing for everyone and it was a great evening. No one wanted to go home, and for the first time I didn’t mind waking up the next day with a hangover.
I’m still bustling with the pure emotion of everyone being so high and seeing Newcastle finally win the major trophy and subsequent reaction.
You can see it from some of the photos taken that night. The outside got the medal from goalkeeper Mark Gillespie’s winner, and the team took the trophy home, which we feel is the most special part of all of this, as many of us hadn’t experienced before.
Maybe in 1969, when Newcastle won the Fairs Cup, some seniors had it, but I was 54 years old and no one under my age had this moment.
It’s new, wonderful, and not finished yet.
I’m not finished the celebration so I’m over for a few more days – it’s an international break so I haven’t been working for a few days. The party will continue for me – the same as coming back in Newcastle too.
Football is everyone’s life, and every weekend we have a good or bad week depending on the outcome.
This victory means everyone has a proper few weeks – the fact that Newcastle will never play again until April 2nd means that they can party a little bit harder and longer because they had to wait for this.
