A lovely airport, a network of trams, and the nearby towns of St. Laurent Devar and Cagnus Sir Mah were affected before being restored late in the morning.
Nice Mayor Christian Eströsi said he “strongly condemned” X for “malicious conduct affecting our country.”
Gael Noffli, the city’s deputy mayor, said the fire at the substation was “probably of criminal origin.”
It came the day after Cannes suffered a major blackout at the International Film Festival. Authorities said it could have been caused by an arson attack on the substation.
Approximately 160,000 homes in the city and surrounding areas have lost their power.
Some screenings were interrupted in the morning due to a blackout before festival organizers could switch to private generators.
At this time, no link has been established between the two incidents.
Estrochi said the authorities will strengthen their security networks, centering on Nice’s electrical sites. An investigation into “organized arson” has been opened.
Lovely prosecutor Damien Martinelli was quoted by AFP news agency as saying that an investigation is ongoing, particularly to “clear the damage and how the act was committed.”
