The Resorts World Casino in Las Vegas was hit with a bad beat… as the venue was fined $10.5 million in connection with a money laundering case involving a bookmaker who placed thousands of bets on Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara.
Nevada’s Game Control Board deleted the news on Friday… said both sides have fallen into a settlement over “inappropriate practices caused by illegal bookmakers Matthew Bowier and Damian Reforbes’ activities on licensed property.”
In addition to the fines… The Vegas location will implement stricter protocols to prevent money laundering, with changes to executive leadership, but there is no need to admit or deny any allegations made against it.
The state gaming board first filed a complaint last year against a relatively new casino… welcomes people who claim illegal bookmaking activities and have been convicted of gambling.
Boweer reportedly placed thousands of sports bets from Ohatani’s former Interpreter… Mizuhara has taken almost $17 million from Otani behind his back to pay off his debts that marked September 2021.
He was found guilty of those crimes and sentenced to 57 months in prison. He was initially faced 33 years later at the back of the bar.
Bowyer is scheduled to be sentenced in April.
