The government has announced £450 million in military support to Kyiv as the UK and Germany prepare to hold a 50-nation meeting in Brussels.
The Secretary of Defense has called on Russian President Vladimir Putin for “mountain pressure” and forced him to end his invasion on Ukraine, British Secretary of Defense John Healy said.
“We must step up to stop Russia’s attacks by continuing to strengthen Ukraine’s defense,” he added.
The package includes funds for repairs to hundreds of thousands of drones, anti-tank mines and military vehicles.
Approximately £350 million will be provided by the UK and additional funding from Norway via the UK-led International Fund for Ukraine.
The package includes £160 million to provide repairs and maintenance to the vehicles and equipment the UK already offers to Ukraine.
The government also says the “close battle” package, which includes funding radar systems, anti-tank mines and drones of over hundreds of thousands of pounds, is worth more than £250 million.
Healy said the group’s work is “essential to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position.”
“We cannot risk peace by forgetting war, which is why today’s major package will surge in support of Ukraine’s frontline fight,” he said.
“2025 is an important year for Ukraine.
“Our job as Minister of Defense is to put what they need in the hands of Ukrainian fighters.”
The fund follows a series of military pledges from the UK to Ukraine.
Last month, Keir Starmer ir announced a £1.6 billion missile contract for Ukraine, following the summit of London’s European leadership, in order to provide more military aid backed by profits from Russian assets, in addition to a £2.2 billion loan.
Lib Dems said the support package released on Friday was a “small change” and called on the government to seize UK Russian assets to provide more funding to Ukraine.
“We welcome the increased support for Ukraine, but this package is a small change compared to what is needed to fight Putin’s wild war,” said party defense spokesman Helen Maguire.
Healy and his German counterpart, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, co-chair of the Ukrainian Defence Contact Group on Friday.
Since then, Healy has taken over as chairman amid signs that the US has returned from European security matters.
The meeting met in Brussels and in Brussels to set up power in Ukraine to ensure lasting peace.
Healey said it did not intend to “segregate the currently fighting side into contacts,” according to AFP news agency, but added that strengthening Ukrainian military forces will be an important part of the plan.
