After months of speculation, the Pittsburgh Steelers are actually trading veteran wide receiver George Pickens. According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports NFL Insider, Pittsburgh has sent him to the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys reportedly had an interest in getting Piken during the 2025 NFL Draft, but nothing had happened at the time. Now, after not choosing a wideout during the draft, the Cowboys apparently have gotten their previous 1,000-yard receivers, which are in the final year of his rookie contract.
At Pickens, Dallas has acquired talent, albeit a controversial player. Pickens is wise to have a talent, one of the best receivers in the NFL, but his lack of control over his emotions has castrated his ability to realize his potential in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh’s Pickens teammate had to restrain him with a side job during the game. He has made multiple screams with fans, including what was the end of Pittsburgh’s defeat in Cleveland during the 2024 season.
If he can better manage his emotions, the Pickens could become a Dallas star in an offense led by quarterback Duck Prescott and perennial professional bowler Cedee Lamb. In Pickens and Lamb, the Cowboys could have the best duo since Michael Irvin and Alvin Harper helped lead Dallas to back-to-back Super Bowls in the early 1990s.

The Pickens are on their way to Dallas, but the Steelers now have another hole left in the receiver position. Looking for the Steelers, seeking draft capital received from Dallas in the Pickens trade, another receiver that can be paired with DK Metcalf, the two-time pro bowler he won in his trade with Seattle in March.
The Steelers may also decide to explore free agency as former Pro Bowlers Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper are still available now.
