Russian authorities say 35 people were killed and 35 were taken to hospital after Ukraine’s attack by Ukraine at a factory in Izhevsk city more than 1,000 km (620 miles) from the border.
Of those injured, seriously injured, governor Udmurtia Alexander Bekarov added that he had explained the attack to President Vladimir Putin.
The drone reportedly targeted Kupol’s electric machinery shop. This is a military factory that is said to produce surface-to-air missile systems and radar stations.
According to Ukrainian media, the factory also specializes in the production of OSA air defense systems and develops drones.
Ukrainian officials have confirmed that two long-range drones run by Ukrainian Security Services (SBU) have hit the Kpol factory from a distance of approximately 1,300 km (807 miles).
“Each of these special operations reduce the likelihood of enemy attacks, disrupt the military production chain, indicating that there is no safe zone in the military infrastructure, even deeper into the rear of Russia,” the source said in a comment reported by Ukrainian media.
A video posted on social media and verified by the BBC found that an explosion occurred on the roof of the building, followed by a large feather of black smoke explosion on top of a factory-shaped chimney.
Russia’s civil aviation regulator, Rosaviatia, imposed restrictions on operations at Izhevsk airport before lifting them up a few hours later.
This is the second Ukrainian drone attack on the Kpol factory since November, but that strike was not a casualty.
Moscow continues its attack in Ukraine. Over the weekend, Russia recorded 537 drones and missiles in various locations across the country, including Kiev and the western city of Lviv.
On Monday, Ukrainian Voldy Mirzelensky gave the Ukrainian Award hero to F-16 pilot Lt. Colonel Maxim Ustimenko after his death.
On the battlefield, progress in Russia’s Smie region appears to be stagnating, but Moscow appears to be targeting the eastern Dnipropetrovsk region. Unconfirmed reports in Russian media suggested that Moscow’s troops controlled the first village in the area.
Two-round talks aimed at agreeing to a ceasefire between Kiev and Moscow have been held at the request of US President Donald Trump since May, but have failed to produce concrete results.
Last week, Putin said the peace proposal between Russia and Ukraine was “absolutely inconsistent,” but the Russian president is ready to negotiate new peace talks.
On Monday, Zelensky once again expressed skepticism about Putin’s intentions. “Putin has already been stolen from diplomacy for practically six months… in addition to the entire period of this war,” the Ukrainian leader said.
“Russia has not changed its plans and is not looking for a way out of this war. On the contrary, they are preparing new activities, including the territory of European countries.”
Ukraine and Russia’s senior US envoy Keith Kellogg repeated this on Monday, writing that Russia “cannot continue to stall for time while bombing civilian targets in Ukraine.”
Moscow was quickly pushed back, saying it had no interest in stalling anything, and thanked the US for its support.
