“I’m not under contract [in the summer] At Luton, who knows what happens there. I play my own game and once I get through it, I will just see what happens.
“I’m not worried either way. The way I see it, the moment I was going to go back to the football pitch and cherish it so much, I hope there are a lot of them.”
Lockyer has worked closely with cardiologists at Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen. He collapsed in the Euro 2020 contest with Finland in Denmark’s Euro 2020 contest with Denmark after undergoing cardiac arrest in Amsterdam during his recovery.
However, the Cardiff-born defender has required two ankle surgeries in recent months, extending the bystander’s spell.
“It was a long six months,” he said.
“I had to play three more games to get mental rehabilitation.
“I returned the first one of them to early December and cleared the ball in training two days before.”
The rocker, who played over 250 games for Bristol Rovers at the start of his career, said he heard a “gigantic pop” in his ankles when he landed.
“It snapped my triangular ligament so they told me I needed surgery, but that’s going to be three months later,” he added.
“I got there two months after that surgery and said, ‘It’s not working properly so I have to start over.’ I let it do it again, but it’s another three months.
“When it rains, it pours. It was a long time ago, but I’m looking up now.”
