Rangers say that the European football governing body described it as “racist and/or discriminatory.”
“The Rangers are a modern and progressive football club and we are extremely proud of our diverse performance teams, workforce and support,” the club said in a statement on its website.
“It is embarrassing that the club will be charged with such matters in 2025, and the sloppy leaders will be shared by the overwhelming majority of supporters.
“The accusations will have consequences for the club, but the club is also working to identify the person in charge, ensuring that they will face consequences as well.
“To avoid doubt, everyone is absolutely welcoming to follow the Rangers if they don’t believe in 2025. Whether it’s Ibrox or away, the Rangers need to separate themselves with the club immediately, not the club for you.”
Rangers are also being charged for objects thrown on Thursday, but say their players and staff were “missile targets” during Sunday’s old company derby victory at Celtic Park.
“This happens regularly not only in Rangers matches, but throughout Scotland’s Stadia,” Rangers said.
“But there was a widely reported incident in an old company match in January, focusing on Ibrox, but in a recent match against Motherwell, one of our own supporters was hit and injured by an object thrown towards the away end.
“This pointless criminal activity is not in sports or society. Again, if you think that such behavior is acceptable, then it’s not welcome in a Rangers game.”
The Rangers also face UEFA sanctions for blocking passages through in the Fennerbafe match, urging Funk to follow the advice of stewards and police.
Additionally, Ranger said: “Despite the clear warnings of the opposition, fireworks engineering was used by two individuals after the old company victory on Sunday at Parkhead.
“This risks that an additional 800 supporters will not be able to attend the match during the second half of Hampden’s Premier Sports Cup.
“All of the above actions affect the club and directly or indirectly on the club’s supporters.”
