The UFC returned to PPV this weekend with the deepest cards of 2025. The promotion heads to Miami in an open featherweight title fight featuring some of the most prominent names in the sport of today. Former featherweight King Alexander Volkanovsky won the 145 pound title in the main event, with Michael Chandler and Paddy Pinblett fighting in the lightweight in the joint main event. It’s all gone down from the Kaesya Centre on a Saturday night.
Volkanovski is earning a title shot at a strange time. The Australian is separated from the knockout loss pair to Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topria despite his incredible resume as a featherweight. Volkanovski is considered one of the best in the history of the division after defeating Max Holloway three times and cleaning up the remaining candidates for the division’s top candidates for Brian Ortega, Chan Sung Jung, Jose Aldo and Yair Rodriguez. However, the Australian is now 36 years old and the sport is not merciless with aging fighter jets.
His opponent on Saturday represents the next generation of competitors when Lopez got his first chance at Gold. The Brazilian native took the opportunity to quickly rise in the opportunity in just two years, making it into a five-win streak of victory. His last two victories are perfect for making decisions with Brian Ortega and Dan Ige in 2024 and with Sodiq Yusuff’s TKO at the beginning of the year.
CBS Sports also has live coverage of fights with round by round scoring and blow-by-round updates, keeping you up to date all night.
